VentureBeat team recently hosted a MetaBeat metaverse conference, which featured a business metaverse theme, attracting hundreds of people to attend the event offline, while many more people listened to the event online.
In this event, NVIDIA Omniverse Development Platform Vice President Richard Kerris hosted a session about Omniverse platform.

The metaverse is huge, requiring the cooperation of the gaming industry, the technology industry, and various enterprises to achieve. Enterprises can optimize the metaverse through cooperation, just like how various technologies developed together led to the creation of networks and made networks exciting and ubiquitous. In the MetaBeat conference, experts in related fields pointed out that there is still a huge gap between the business metaverse and the gaming metaverse.
Omniverse has the potential to unify different creative formats. By using USD (Universal Scene Description, a 3D standard initially created by Pixar) to standardize 3D creative content or using lightweight 3D models in glTF format on the network, designers and creators can share their creations in the virtual world. Omniverse Cloud can empower creators around the world to achieve interoperability.

When asked whether NVIDIA should directly create the metaverse, Kerris said: "No, because the metaverse is the next generation of the internet." This question is like asking someone whether they should create a network, as the open-form metaverse will not be created by a single company like in The First Player, but by professionals from various industries, utilizing open-source Blender 3D modeling applications widely used by amateur enthusiasts to create.

Lebaredian and Khronos Group leader Neil Trevett (the organizer of the Metaverse Standards Forum) also said that the construction of the metaverse is not a task that can be completed by a few companies alone, but by multiple companies in various industries, carefully designed. The metaverse can not only be built by professional developers, but also enriched with user-generated content, so that players and users can fully utilize their creativity to enrich the metaverse world. In addition, other parts of the metaverse need to be built using artificial intelligence. For the field of artificial intelligence, this will be a huge task, which will include various difficult tasks, abundant content, and constantly expanding and enriching the world, these tasks will make every world in the metaverse like the Middle Earth described in novels, and these are the content that needs to be built using artificial intelligence for the metaverse construction.

Artificial intelligence development requires NVIDIA's super chip or similar chips to achieve. Therefore, in order to achieve a powerful and efficient computing power that can drive the metaverse in a low-carbon and environmentally friendly way, chip manufacturers need to think creatively and work together. In order to achieve high-speed development in the industry, the industry needs to promote technology development through software to drive hardware virtualization, and vice versa. Each industry needs to contribute its own strength. Currently, the industry is also developing high-end VR headsets for enterprises. Enterprises can use similar AR and VR headsets for employee training to save the cost of inviting experts for on-site training, and can also use these headsets to utilize factory digital twins.

Large companies in the industrial field are committed to creating digital twins. BMW, German Railways, and Siemens companies, before investing in building their physical factories, will use digital twins to perfect their factory designs. When their factory digital twins are perfected and verified, they can start building these already connected factories. In addition, sensors can provide real-time data feedback to the Omniverse platform and inform designers about the next design needs to be improved.

As the promotion of digital twins and the range of VR headsets continue to expand, many enterprises will invest in the production and improvement of high-end headsets and the chip driving headsets. Technical experts will focus on developing ways to reduce costs and promote these technologies to the mass market and game players to continue to promote the flywheel effect. When those game developers introduce billions of players to network games, NVIDIA invests in manufacturing a new generation of artificial intelligence chips to empower NVIDIA Super Computer Earth-2, building a precise meter-level digital twin simulation of the earth.

The state of the earth's atmosphere will be affected by various things on the earth, also known as the butterfly effect, this simulation recreates this effect. NVIDIA believes this is a very useful simulation, and will use the supercomputer driven by AI chips from the gaming industry to support this simulation, so as to predict climate change. As NVIDIA CEO Huang Rongxun said, NVIDIA will use Earth-2 to build the digital twin of the earth in Omniverse, driving the construction of the metaverse. After the promotion of multiple generations of hardware and software, this amazing metaverse can definitely be realized.

The development of the metaverse transcends industry boundaries, it is the process of various industries striving for common interests. The metaverse may be the peak of the current technological era. Science fiction writer Neal Stephenson wrote Snow Crash and created the term "metaverse" 30 years ago, enough to show the charm of the metaverse. NVIDIA will continue to develop Omniverse tools as "platforms" to promote the construction of the metaverse.
